Kingston and Wimbledon YMCA Youth Justice video

'Youth of today are the future of tomorrow.' That's the message from young people at Kingston & Wimbledon YMCA in a music video produced on the theme of youth justice.

Youth justicezBDI79Earlier this summer, young people from Kingston & Wimbledon YMCA attended Y Care International's 'Changing Your World' course, which focused on their Youth Justice in Action campaign. The course is designed to teach young people lobbying and advocacy skills.

Y Care International works in partnership with young people worldwide through the YMCA movement to help them enrich their lives and to build a more just world, free from poverty. Residents from YMCA Norfolk have also attended the ‘Changing Your World’ course which is led by Lord Rupert Redesdale.

As part of YMCA England’s Youth Justice Initiative, a YMCA Norfolk resident was invited to attend the Archbishop’s Youth Justice Seminar at Lambeth Palace. Dr Sentamu, Archbishop of York and President of the National Council of YMCAs invited young people from many YMCAs to share their experiences of the UK justice system with those responsible for developing policy in regard to Youth Justice.

Following the recent 'Changing Your World' course, Kingston & Wimbledon YMCA developed an idea to run a music workshop with young people, to develop a song which represents the issue of youth justice. They took part in songwriting workshops before writing the lyrics and recording the song. The video was produced by the young people from scratch, with a small amount of funding from Y Care International.

The video can be seen on You Tube or on the Y Care website - http://www.ycareinternational.org/1582/videos/kingston--wimbledon-youth-justice-video.html
