A
YMCA Norwich resident who was beaten up and had his bike stolen has told of his gratitude towards a fellow YMCA resident who gave him a rare designer bike he had won as part of a competition.
When
Ian Sharman, 24, who lives at the YMCA on St Giles Street, was attacked in Chapelfield Gardens earlier in October, he was robbed of his phone, CDs, DVDs, his late grandfather's tobacco tin, and his bike, as well as being left bruised and beaten.
But thanks to the kindness of
Michael Douglas, 31, a fellow St Giles Street YMCA resident, who won a rare bike designed by
Wayne Hemmingway, creator of fashion label Red or Dead, Mr Sharman is now able to get around the city and enjoy his hobbies of cycling and DJing.
The pair had been involved in the
Norwich ID project, which aims to encourage young people to celebrate the city's heritage and identity and is part of
Portrait of a Nation - a year-long programme of events involving young people from 18 cities across the UK who have been tasked with the job of looking at who they are and where they come from.
